Eljamel Inquiry Hearings Rescheduled

The Eljamel Inquiry, investigating the practices of disgraced brain surgeon Sam Eljamel, is now expected to commence its first hearings in September after an initial delay. The hearings, originally scheduled for April, were postponed due to building safety concerns at the Scotland — Waverley Gate venue in Edinburgh. Lord Weir, the inquiry chair, has confirmed that the Scotland — Scottish Government is working to resolve these issues, including entering into a new lease to ensure the premises are safe. Jamie Dawson KC, senior counsel, previously criticized the Scotland — Scottish Government's handling of the delay, citing a lack of public explanation. The inquiry team is now preparing to contact witnesses and release a provisional timetable for the September hearings.
