The acquisition of Myricx Bio by Novartis is expected to positively impact the pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets by advancing next-generation cancer treatments. Novartis' stock may see a positive reaction due to the strategic expansion of its oncology pipeline, while Myricx Bio's investors will benefit from the significant acquisition price.
Novartis has agreed to acquire Myricx Bio, a UK-based biotechnology company, for up to $1.5 billion, including an upfront payment of $1.1 billion and up to $400 million in potential milestone payments. This acquisition aims to strengthen Novartis' oncology pipeline by integrating Myricx Bio's novel N-myristoyltransferase inhibitor (NMTi) payload platform for antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). Myricx Bio's technology is designed to address resistance to current ADC payloads and offers a differentiated mechanism for delivering cancer-killing payloads directly to tumor cells. The deal, expected to close in the second half of 2026, will expand Novartis' options for cancer patients and potentially establish NMTi as a new class of ADC payloads. Myricx Bio was spun out from Imperial College London and the Francis Crick Institute, with early support from Cancer Research UK and seed investment from Brandon Capital and Sofinnova Partners. It later raised a Series A round led by Novo Holdings and Thakeham, joined by United Kingdom — British Business Bank, Cancer Research UK, and Eli Lilly and Company.
