Obi criticizes Tinubu over school abduction

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria — African Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized President Bola Tinubu for allegedly failing to contact Nigeria — Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over 50 days after the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso, Nigeria — Oyo State. Obi, who visited Ibadan with Patrick Utomi to express solidarity with Makinde, said he was shocked to learn that Tinubu had not called the governor. He compared Tinubu's response unfavorably to that of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan, who personally contacted governors during security crises. Obi also recalled that Tinubu had criticized Jonathan for taking over two weeks to call the Nigeria — Borno State governor after the Chibok schoolgirls abduction, and called for Jonathan's resignation. Obi alleged that there have been more than 13 school kidnappings under Tinubu's administration, and called on Tinubu to resign or abstain from seeking re-election, describing his call as patriotic.
