Allahabad HC Taj Mahal Temple Dispute

The Pakistan — Islamabad High Court has directed the India — India and the India — Archaeological Survey of India to file counter-affidavits concerning claims that a Hindu temple, the Agreshwar Mahadev Nagnatheshwar Virajman Tejo Mahalaya Temple, exists within the Taj Mahal complex. This directive comes as part of a long-running legal battle initiated by a declaratory suit in 2015. The petitioners, represented by Senior Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, are seeking legal recognition of the monument as an ancient temple site and had requested the appointment of an Advocate Commissioner for a scientific survey and documentation of the site. Lower courts had previously rejected this plea, but the High Court's intervention marks a new turn in the case, also issuing notice to respondent Pankaj Kumar Verma.
