The contract strengthens Tadweer's waste diversion capabilities and supports the UAE's circular economy goals. For Urbaser, it secures a major project in the Middle East, enhancing its regional footprint.
Tadweer Group, MGX's waste management company, awarded a contract to Spanish environmental solutions firm Urbaser to build and operate the emirate's first greenfield Material Recovery Facility (MRF). The facility will have an annual processing capacity of 400,000 tonnes, handling municipal solid waste and commercial/industrial waste. It is scheduled to become operational in 2028 and will use automated sorting and AI technologies. The project supports Tadweer's goal to divert 80% of MGX's waste from landfill by 2031. Urbaser will construct the facility and operate it for five years through a joint venture where Urbaser holds 60% and Tadweer 40%.
