NANS Ultimatum to South African Businesses

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) issued a four-day ultimatum on July 6, 2026, demanding that South African businesses leave Nigeria in response to ongoing xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa. NANS warned of protests and picketing by its 43.1 million members if the ultimatum is not heeded. The student body also called on the Nigerian government and the African Union to take stronger action against South Africa. The ultimatum follows reports of attacks, intimidation, and destruction of Nigerian-owned properties in South Africa, as well as a prior June 30 deadline given by anti-migrant groups for foreigners to leave South Africa. The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has evacuated hundreds of Nigerians from South Africa in recent weeks.
