Pakistan Mediates Libya Unity Plan

Pakistan has initiated quiet mediation efforts between Libya's rival eastern and western power centers, aiming to reunify the country which has been split since the 2011 civil war. This initiative, supported by the United States and Saudi Arabia, seeks to establish a 36-month transitional power-sharing arrangement under a Government of National Consensus and Presidential Council. The proposed plan suggests Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh of the Libya — National unity government as prime minister and Saddam Haftar of the Libyan National Army as chairman of the Presidential Council, with Khalifa Haftar gaining authority over the budget. Pakistan's involvement follows its successful mediation between the United States and Iran, and it maintains ties with both Libyan factions, including pursuing defense deals with the Libyan National Army. Qatar and Turkey also encouraged Pakistan's participation. The success of this plan is crucial for Libya's stability and could significantly raise Pakistan's diplomatic profile.
