The partnership is expected to boost SME participation in international trade, potentially increasing export volumes and supporting job creation in South Africa. Standard Bank and SKY Express may see enhanced brand reputation and customer loyalty among SMEs, though direct financial impact is likely modest.
Standard Bank has expanded its Export Readiness Programme to South Africa — Gauteng and the South Africa — Western Cape after a successful pilot in South Africa — KwaZulu-Natal in 2025. SKY Express South Africa has joined as the technical export readiness partner, providing expertise on export processes, customs requirements, logistics, market research, and export finance. The programme targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are at least 51% black-owned, with annual turnover between R1 million and R50 million, operating for at least 24 months, and based in the three provinces. Applications close on 10 July 2026. The initiative aims to equip SMEs with the capabilities to compete globally, contributing to inclusive economic growth.
