Larry Alans-Dogbey appeals contempt conviction

Larry Alans-Dogbey, Managing Editor of The Herald newspaper, has filed an appeal against his conviction and seven-day prison sentence for contempt of court. The High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Isaac Addo, found him guilty on June 25, 2026, for breaching an interlocutory injunction obtained by businessman Kevin Okyere in a defamation suit. The injunction had barred publications allegedly intended to undermine Okyere's reputation. Alans-Dogbey argues that the injunction was an unconstitutional prior restraint on press freedom, vague, and that the court applied the wrong standard of proof. He also contends that his publications were based on official documents and a Supreme Court decision, and that the sentence is excessive. The appeal is pending before the Ghana — Court of Appeal of Ghana.
