The selection of Saab's GlobalEye by NATO is a significant endorsement that could lead to a multi-billion dollar contract, boosting Saab's revenue and reputation in the defense sector. Competitors like Boeing may face reduced prospects for their AWACS platforms.

At the NATO summit in Ankara, Türkiye, Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that NATO will begin formal negotiations with Saab regarding the acquisition of up to ten GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) systems. The announcement confirms Saab's GlobalEye as NATO's chosen solution to replace its aging Boeing E-3 fleet. Eleven NATO members—Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, and Sweden—have agreed to jointly procure the system. Saab has not yet signed a contract or received an order. The company will proceed to formal negotiations with the International — NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson welcomed the decision, noting expected job creation in Sweden.
