The suspension provides temporary regulatory relief for internet platforms and digital economy operators in Nigeria, reducing compliance uncertainty. However, the ongoing harmonisation process and separate investigation into tech companies may create short-term uncertainty for investors.

The Nigeria, through Minister Bosun Tijani, has directed the Nigeria — Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigeria — National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and Ghana — Data Protection Commission (Ghana) (NDPC) to suspend implementation of new regulations affecting internet platforms, online intermediaries, and cross-cutting digital economy issues. This suspension is pending the development of a harmonised national policy framework to address regulatory overlaps. A joint technical coordination committee will be established to develop recommendations. The directive follows President Bola Tinubu's order for the Nigeria — Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to investigate major tech companies and AI platforms over anti-competitive practices and exploitation of Nigerian media content.
