KFSH Jeddah stem cell protocol breakthrough

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has developed and implemented the world's first protocol using an algorithm to accurately estimate stem cell yield from donors. The protocol enabled stem cell collection in the first session for 100% of male donors and 94.9% of all donors, eliminating the need for third and fourth sessions. This reduces donor hospitalization risk sixfold and improves patient survival to 91.2% at 100 days post-transplant. The results were published in Blood Global Hematology, a journal of the American Society of Hematology. The algorithm was developed over three years and tested on 138 donors, achieving 92% accuracy in predicting cell yield. The breakthrough reinforces KFSH's standing as a pioneer in advanced medical solutions.
