Turnitin released its Q2 2026 Learning Integrity Insights Report on July 7, 2026, revealing that US higher education students are using AI for writing at nearly double the rate of their UK and Australian peers. The report, based on analysis of submissions to Turnitin's AI detection tools and feedback from over 60 education events, also found that educators are increasingly taking the lead in implementing AI tools in classrooms. Key findings include that 19.4% of US higher education submissions had an AI writing score above 80%, compared to 9.8% in the UK and 10.2% in Australia. Secondary students showed lower usage, between 5% and 6%. The report highlights educator demand for transparency, customization, and scaffolding tools, and notes new US state laws in United States — Ohio and United States — West Virginia requiring formal AI policies in schools.
