Researchers at University of Michigan Medicine discovered that the glycine-based tripeptide DT-109 reverses metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) in animal models by protecting the gut barrier and reducing harmful gut bacteria. The study, published in Journal of Clinical Investigation, shows DT-109 diminishes Clostridium perfringens and ammonia production, reducing liver inflammation. The compound also shows potential for treating cardiovascular disease and inflammatory bowel disease. The University of Michigan has patented DT-109 and licensed it to Diapin Therapeutics, which provided the compound for the study. Future studies will advance DT-109 toward clinical trials.
