ILO GenAI ASEAN labor report

The International Labour Organization (ILO) released a report on July 8, 2026, titled 'Generative AI and labour markets in ASEAN: Significant exposure, limited disruption, uneven preparedness'. The report estimates that 22.9% of total employment in ASEAN (nearly 80 million workers) is in occupations with more than minimal potential exposure to generative AI, but only 3.3% (11.7 million workers) are in the highest exposure category. Singapore has the highest share of exposed workers (42.2%), followed by the Philippines (28.1%), Indonesia (21.7%), Vietnam (20.8%), and Thailand (20.6%). Women are more than twice as likely as men to be in highly exposed occupations. The report finds no evidence of large-scale job losses so far and notes that employment in highly exposed occupations continues to expand. It recommends human-centered governance, inclusive skills development, support for MSMEs, and stronger regional cooperation.
