Haldor Topsøe and Sasol have signed a single-point licensing agreement with SUSTAERO to provide technology for a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in Canada. The facility will use wood waste as feedstock and is expected to produce 3,200 barrels per day of SAF, with potential expansion to three times that capacity. Haldor Topsøe will supply hydrogen production, gas reforming, and hydroprocessing solutions, while Sasol will provide Fischer-Tropsch and treatment technologies. A final investment decision is expected in 2028, with production planned to begin in 2031. The agreement reflects growing demand for SAF, which IATA projects will reach 1.9 million tons in 2025, though still only 0.6% of global jet fuel. The IEA estimates SAF must exceed 10% of aviation fuel by 2030 to meet net-zero targets.
