The PBOC's reaffirmation of accommodative policy signals continued support for the economy amid weak demand, which may stabilize market expectations. However, the lack of new stimulus measures could disappoint investors hoping for more aggressive action.
On July 8, 2026, the Bank of China (PBOC) stated after its second-quarter Monetary Policy Committee meeting that China's economy faces challenges including strong supply, weak demand, structural divergence, and external shocks. The central bank pledged to maintain an appropriately loose monetary policy, ramp up financial support to revive domestic consumption, strengthen guidance on policy interest rates, drive a reasonable rebound in prices, and keep the yuan basically stable. It also noted that liquidity should be kept ample. The PBOC has refrained from cutting policy rates or reserve requirement ratios since May 2025, focusing instead on refining its monetary policy framework.
