Redwire appoints advisors for SpaceMD

Redwire Corporation (NYSE: RDW) announced the appointment of Paul Reichert, former Principal Investigator at Merck Research Laboratories, and Niki Werkheiser, former Director of Technology Maturation at United States — NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate, as strategic advisors to its venture company Space Microgravity Development LLC (SpaceMD). Reichert will serve as Scientific Advisor, shaping SpaceMD's scientific and commercial roadmap by identifying promising drug candidates and supporting the development of an orbital research and manufacturing pipeline. Werkheiser will serve as Strategic Advisor, working with the SpaceMD team and biotech partners to develop new therapeutic concepts and establish opportunities for space-based pharmaceutical research on the International Space Station and emerging commercial platforms. SpaceMD leverages microgravity to grow seed crystals using its Pharmaceutical In-Space Laboratory (PIL-BOX) technology, with 54 PIL-BOX systems flown to the ISS since November 2023, successfully crystallizing 45 unique compounds including insulin and molecules for cancer, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and diabetes.
