On July 8, 2026, Aduna, a joint venture of major telecom operators and Ericsson, announced the launch of Number Verification, a network-based authentication solution designed to replace SMS One-Time Passcodes (OTPs). The solution is being rolled out in collaboration with AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon to protect US mobile users from AI-driven identity theft. Number Verification uses real-time, possession-based authentication through the carrier network, working across all major operating systems and network types. The launch comes amid record $15.9 billion in US fraud losses reported by the FTC. Aduna's venture partners include AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, KDDI, Orange, Reliance Industries — Jio, Singtel, Telefónica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Vodafone Idea, with developer platforms including Alphabet Inc. — Google Cloud Platform, Infobip, Sinch, and Ericsson — Vonage.
