Palestinian journalist Mujahed Bani Mufleh, 37, was released from Israeli detention in January 2026 after six months in administrative detention. Two days after release, he suffered a severe brain hemorrhage and underwent surgeries, including partial skull removal. He described Israeli prisons as a 'graveyard' for the living, alleging assault and mistreatment. Israel has increased administrative detention since the Gaza war. The Committee to Protect Journalists documented 108 journalist arrests since October 7, 2023. Israel released journalist Ali Al-Samoudi in April 2026, who appeared emaciated. The Palestinian Prisoners Club says Bani Mufleh's case is one of thousands of systematic crimes.
