EU to fund Ghana defence via EPF

On July 8, 2026, Ghana and the European Union (EU) held a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Defence in Accra to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral security cooperation. The EU delegation, led by Ambassador Rune Skinnebech and including Head of Division for the European Peace Facility (EPF) Dorota Dlouchy Suliga and Policy Officer Maria Castaldi, met with Deputy Minister for Defence Ernest Brogya Genfi. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration to address evolving security threats, including counter-terrorism and maritime security. The EU announced plans to provide funding through the EPF in the coming year to support the enhancement of Ghana's defence capabilities, particularly the Ghana — Ghana Navy. Ghana outlined efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana — Ghana Armed Forces, including deploying platforms to protect critical national infrastructure. The meeting underscored the longstanding partnership between Ghana and the EU and the importance of international cooperation in promoting peace and stability in the West African region.
