The Nigerian government, through Defence Minister Christopher Gwabin Musa, announced an increase in the minimum monthly salary of Nigerian soldiers from N49,000 to N100,000. Musa disclosed this in an interview with News Central, stating the raise is part of efforts to improve troop welfare. He admitted the military remains underfunded and the defence budget is insufficient. Musa also advocated for the death penalty for kidnappers and dismissed allegations of poor feeding in the military, citing a manipulated video by a soldier named Justice Crack. He commented on the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Nigeria — Oyo State, alleging kidnappers are using them as leverage to demand release of detained commanders.
