Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Nigeria — Lagos State Special Offences Court admitted extra-judicial statements made by former Nigeria — Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to the Nigeria — Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as evidence in his ongoing corruption trial. The court dismissed objections from Emefiele's counsel, Olalekan Ojo, who argued the statements were obtained under duress during Emefiele's detention by the United States — United States Department of State (DSS). The judge ruled that the statements were not confessional and thus did not require a trial-within-trial. Emefiele and co-defendant Henry Omoile face charges involving $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion. The trial was adjourned to October and November 2026.
