The Nigeria — Universal Basic Education Commission (Nigeria) (UBEC) announced that it has mobilized over ₦100 billion in previously unaccessed matching grants from states and the Nigeria — Federal Capital Territory (Nigeria). Executive Secretary Aisha Garba disclosed this at a media luncheon in Abuja, highlighting achievements under UBEC's 2025-2031 Strategic Blueprint aligned with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. The funds are being used for school infrastructure, teacher training, and digital education. Specifics include construction of over 4,600 classrooms, renovation of over 6,100 classrooms, provision of 2,780 toilets and 678 boreholes, supply of over 334,000 pieces of furniture, establishment of over 2,300 Early Childhood Care Development and Education Centres, investment of over ₦20.4 billion in teacher professional development, distribution of over 7.8 million instructional materials, and expansion of digital literacy centres. UBEC also introduced institutional reforms for transparency. Media representatives from the White House Correspondents Association and National Union of Journalists praised the initiative and called for continued collaboration.
