The Federal Ministry of Education and the Nigeria — National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) are collaborating to integrate the National Learners' Identification Number (LIN) with the National Identification Number (NIN) for approximately 80 million learners across Nigeria. This initiative, supported by the newly enacted NIMC Act 2026, aims to create a unified digital identity framework to improve education planning, resource allocation, data integrity, and reduce fraud. The integration will be implemented through the Nigeria Education Management Information System (NEMIS). NIMC has enrolled over 120 million Nigerians and introduced a Digital ID Card and Authentication App. The partnership aligns with President Bola Tinubu's technology-driven reforms to enhance transparency and governance.
