The veto has minimal direct market impact as it involves routine legislative procedure. However, it signals the executive's scrutiny of legislative quality, which may affect investor perception of governance stability.
President Bola Tinubu declined assent to two bills passed by the National Assembly of Nigeria: the Nigeria — Raw Materials Research and Development Council (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply of Nigeria Bill. Citing constitutional concerns and drafting deficiencies under Section 58(4) of the 1999 Constitution, Tinubu returned the bills to the Senate for reconsideration. Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred the communications to the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, which must report back within four weeks. Tinubu indicated the bills could receive assent after corrections.
