On June 27, 2026, Shane Cautillo boarded an MBTA commuter rail train at Boston's North Station carrying homemade explosive devices and made loud comments about building bombs and giving them to extremist groups, terrorist groups, and homeless people. He also stated he was inspired by the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. MBTA Transit Police responded, and a hazardous device technician disarmed the devices. Cautillo was arrested and charged with possession of a hoax incendiary device, possession of a hoax device or substance, unlawful possession of fireworks, and disorderly conduct on a public conveyance. He was arraigned on June 29 and ordered held on $10,000 bail, prohibited from using MBTA transit and possessing dangerous weapons. No injuries were reported.
