Tencent is in talks to become the largest shareholder of AI startup Manus, after Beijing ordered Meta to unwind its $2 billion acquisition of the company. Tencent, together with original investors ZhenFund and HSG, plans to buy Manus back from Meta for at least $2 billion. Manus, which develops agentic AI tools, relocated from China to Singapore last year. Meta acquired Manus in December 2025 but China launched a regulatory review in April 2026, leading to the unwind order. Meta has since completed an operational split from Manus and halted data sharing. Manus was previously hailed as China's next DeepSeek.
