The World Bank Group's Board of Executive Directors approved a $890 million financing package to support India's PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, a national rooftop solar program targeting 10 million households. The package includes an $820 million loan from IBRD, a $60 million concessional loan from the Climate Investment Funds, and a $10 million grant from IBRD's Livable Planet Fund. Additionally, the World Bank Group will mobilize $4.2 billion in private financing. The program aims to create 1.7 million jobs and reduce household electricity costs. India has committed to net-zero emissions by 2070 and increasing non-fossil-fuel energy to 60% of its mix by 2035.
