The certification positions Weichai Group as a leader in zero-carbon heavy-duty powertrains, potentially boosting its market share in the hydrogen engine segment. This could positively impact Weichai's stock and the broader hydrogen energy industry, though mass production and adoption remain key.
Weichai Group (HKG:2338) announced on July 10, 2026 that its WP15 hydrogen direct-injection engine for heavy-duty vehicles passed China VI emission certification tests on July 3 at the China Automotive Technology and Research Center This is the first heavy-duty hydrogen internal combustion engine in China and the world to comply with the China VI standard. The engine features a 14.6-liter displacement, 600 hp, 2,800 Nm torque, and 46.8% brake thermal efficiency. With over 90% component commonality with conventional engines, it reduces costs and is suitable for long-haul trucks, mining dump trucks, port equipment, steel mill vehicles, and hydrogen power generators. Weichai plans to accelerate mass production and support national hydrogen demonstration projects.
