Healthcare

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar has completed 100 advanced robotic-assisted surgeries within four-and-a-half months of launching the programme, becoming the first government-funded healthcare institution in India — Odisha to operate a fully functional multi-disciplinary robotic surgical programme. The surgeries were performed across five departments: General Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and specialized procedures including bariatric and paediatric surgeries. The programme was virtually inaugurated by Union Health Minister Jagad Prakash Nadda on February 23. Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas highlighted that the initiative democratizes access to advanced surgical technology at subsidized government rates, reducing the financial burden on patients who previously had to travel to metropolitan cities for such procedures.
