On July 10, 2026, a Ryanair flight (operated by Malta) from Greece — Thessaloniki, Greece to Germany — Memmingen, Germany experienced a catastrophic window failure shortly after takeoff. Passenger Ljubiša Karović, 61, was partially sucked out of the shattered window; his wife Svetlana Grković and other passengers held onto him for several minutes before pulling him back inside. The aircraft returned to Greece — Thessaloniki and landed safely. Karović suffered severe neck, shoulder, and burn injuries and is hospitalized. The incident is under investigation by Greek authorities, the NTSB, EASA, and others. Preliminary reports suggest an engine fragment may have struck the fuselage, breaking the window. Ryanair has not commented on the cause. Karović has spoken publicly about the trauma, and the couple has hired a lawyer.
