Qatar-Jordan talks on Iran de-escalation

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, held a series of phone calls with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, between July and August 2026. The discussions focused on bilateral cooperation and regional developments, particularly diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran. Qatar stressed the need for all parties to commit to dialogue and implement the agreement, including ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. In one call, Qatar condemned renewed Iranian attacks against Jordanian territory, calling them a violation of sovereignty and international law. Qatar reiterated its full support for efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
