The eased export controls are expected to boost revenue for U.S. tech firms, particularly Nvidia, by opening the UAE market for AI chips. However, the move may raise geopolitical tensions and scrutiny over technology transfer risks.
On July 10, 2026, the U.S. Department of Commerce loosened export controls on the United Arab Emirates, moving it into a country grouping that allows license-free access for advanced computing items, including Nvidia AI chips, military equipment, commercial satellites, and spacecraft. The change benefits UAE companies G42 and Core42, as well as U.S. firms operating in the UAE such as Amazon, Apple, xAI, Alphabet Inc., Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Oracle. The Commerce Department also plans to favorably review export license applications for chips and servers to UAE company MGX. The move strengthens U.S.-UAE relations, citing the UAE's role in countering Iran and its proxies, and its participation in Operation Epic Fury. However, Senator Elizabeth Warren criticized the decision, citing national security risks and potential diversion of sensitive technology to China.
