On July 11, 2026, Bangladesh's Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology, Faqir Mahbub Anam, inaugurated the Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory and AI Project Competition 2026 at Daffodil International University (DIU) in Savar. The minister emphasized the government's priority to develop an AI-skilled workforce, describing AI as a key driver of the future economy, employment, innovation, and national competitiveness. He stated that the government aims to create one million new jobs in the ICT sector over the next five years, with AI playing a central role. The newly inaugurated lab features 25 Nvidia DGX Spark workstations and five high-performance computers with RTX 3060 and RTX 4090 GPUs, staffed by five full-time researchers. The research team has developed platforms such as AI Professor, AI Proctor, and AI Registrar, and is working on a Smart Classroom system. The minister also distributed prizes to 12 winning teams from 145 student-developed AI projects.
