Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) turned net buyers of Indian equities in July 2026, investing over ₹15,157 crore after four consecutive months of heavy selling. The reversal is attributed to improving domestic macroeconomic indicators, a stable India — Indian rupee, and better global risk sentiment following de-escalation of geopolitical tensions. Despite this, FPIs remain net sellers on a year-to-date basis, having withdrawn a net ₹2.6 lakh crore from Indian equities in 2026. FPIs also invested ₹9,853 crore in Indian debt securities in July. The India — Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) notified changes to FPI regulations, replacing the US dollar-denominated fee payment with a rupee-denominated structure, effective after six months.
