Blogger remanded for defaming Soludo

Ejike Ofoegbu, a blogger and publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and INews, was remanded at Nigeria — Oba Correctional Centre by an Nigeria — Anambra State Magistrate Court on July 13, 2026, over alleged criminal defamation of Governor Charles Soludo, his family, and his son Ozonna Soludo. The prosecution alleged Ofoegbu published false reports claiming Soludo disowned his son, that Ozonna called his father a drunkard, and that the governor engaged in a drinking competition with a minister. Ofoegbu faces charges under the Cybercrimes Act and Criminal Code for cyberstalking, identity theft, and defamation. The magistrate declined bail due to lack of jurisdiction and adjourned the case to July 27 for legal advice from the Attorney General. Ofoegbu had previously issued a public apology, but the prosecution proceeded, arguing the apology does not extinguish criminal liability.
