Anthropic's local pricing in India could boost subscription revenue from its second-largest market, but higher nominal prices compared to the US may limit adoption. The move intensifies competition with OpenAI and Alphabet Inc. in India's growing AI market.

Artificial Intelligence Software Technology

Anthropic has introduced rupee-denominated pricing for its Claude AI assistant in India, making subscriptions available in local currency. Claude Pro is priced at ₹2,000 per month, Claude Max from ₹11,999 per month, and Team plans from ₹2,399 per seat per month. India is Anthropic's second-largest market, accounting for 5.8% of global Claude usage. The move follows Anthropic's opening of a Bengaluru office in February 2026 and partnerships with Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services. The pricing does not yet support UPI payments, unlike rival OpenAI which introduced rupee pricing with UPI support in August. Anthropic also faced a setback in June when it suspended access to advanced models Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for users outside the US due to export controls, but later restored Fable 5 access. The company appointed former Microsoft India MD Irina Ghose to lead India operations.
