Ryanair passenger sucked out window

On July 10, 2026, Ryanair flight FR1879, a Boeing 737-800 traveling from Greece — Thessaloniki, Greece to Germany — Memmingen, Germany, experienced an engine failure shortly after takeoff. A piece of the engine broke off and shattered a cabin window, causing decompression. Passenger Ljubiša Karović, seated next to the window, was partially sucked out of the aircraft. His wife, Svetlana Grković, held onto his legs for about five minutes until fellow passengers pulled him back inside. The aircraft returned to Greece — Thessaloniki for an emergency landing. Karović sustained serious injuries including burns and shock, and remains hospitalized. A pregnant passenger was also taken to hospital but later discharged. Ryanair arranged a replacement aircraft for the remaining passengers.
