The launch enhances cross-border payment efficiency for Emirates (airline)'s clients, potentially increasing transaction volumes and fee income. It also strengthens Partior's network, attracting more banks and currencies, which could boost adoption of blockchain settlement and impact traditional correspondent banking.
Emirates (airline), a leading banking group in the MENAT region, has gone live on the Partior network, a multi-currency blockchain-based clearing and settlement platform. This makes Emirates (airline) the first financial institution in the region to enable real-time blockchain-based cross-border payments on Partior's infrastructure. Following a successful live USD transaction where JPMorgan Chase acted as both settlement and beneficiary bank, Emirates (airline) is now offering real-time USD payments for its corporate and institutional clients with beneficiary accounts at JPMorgan Chase. The launch is the first phase of a broader roadmap to expand across additional currencies, settlement corridors, and more participating banks globally. Emirates (airline)'s strategic partnership and investment in Partior, through its Innovation Fund, enabled this milestone. Partior, founded in 2021 by DBS Bank, JPMorgan Chase, and Standard Chartered, and backed by Temasek, Peak XV Partners, Valor Capital Group, Deutsche Bank, and Emirates (airline), provides a ledger platform for wholesale payments, originating from Singapore's Project Ubin. The development reflects increasing adoption of blockchain-based settlement infrastructure by financial institutions globally to reduce friction, improve transparency, and accelerate cross-border capital flows.
