The World Health Organization has received less than half the funding needed to combat the Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The WHO appealed for $115 million but has only received about 40%. At least 1,926 people have been infected and 702 have died since the outbreak began. The WHO's Health Emergencies Programme head, Chikwe Ihekweazu, urged donors not to abandon the DRC, noting the outbreak has spread to two new provinces. He estimated the true number of cases could be two to four times higher than official figures. Singapore contributed $2 million to support response efforts in the DRC and Uganda.
