Analysis based on 6 articles · First reported Jul 14, 2026 · Last updated Jul 14, 2026
The launch strengthens MicroVision's in-house semiconductor capabilities, potentially reducing reliance on external suppliers and accelerating product development. This could positively impact MicroVision's competitive position in the lidar and perception market, though near-term financial impact is limited as the subsidiary continues serving existing customers.
On July 14, 2026, MicroVision, Inc. announced the launch of MicroVision — MicroVision Semiconductor, Inc., a dedicated semiconductor organization headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The subsidiary, formerly Black Forest Engineering and acquired from Luminar Technologies, combines over 30 years of custom IC expertise with MicroVision's perception portfolio to accelerate next-generation lidar, photonics, and intelligent sensing solutions. MicroVision — MicroVision Semiconductor provides custom ASIC development, mixed-signal design, and manufacturing support across foundries including Tower Semiconductor, TSMC, and X-FAB. The launch is part of MicroVision's Lidar 2.0 strategy to deliver integrated perception systems combining hardware, semiconductors, photonics, and software.
