The Bank of Industry (BOI) announced an €85 million long-term financing facility from the European Investment Bank (EIB), backed by the European Union's Global Gateway initiative, to expand Nigeria's cocoa and dairy processing. About 70% of the facility will target cocoa and dairy sectors to reduce raw bean exports and promote local value addition. The announcement coincided with the Cocoa Value Addition Summit 2026 in Abuja, where Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon signed the Abuja Declaration establishing the Cocoa Value Addition Alliance (CVAA). BOI Managing Director Olasupo Olusi stated that financing will prioritize processors, cooperatives, and MSMEs engaged in local value addition, with technical assistance for EUDR compliance. President Bola Tinubu, represented by Minister Abubakar Kyari, called for increased local processing. The initiative aims to boost earnings from $9,000 per tonne for raw beans to $30,000 per tonne for processed products, create jobs, and strengthen non-oil exports.
