The controversy may slow public acceptance of E20 fuel, potentially affecting ethanol blending targets and related industries. However, the FIR and political debate are unlikely to have a significant direct impact on markets.
Nagpur Cyber Police registered an FIR against social media influencers, including Manish Kashyap, for allegedly circulating defamatory content targeting Union Minister Nitin Gadkari over the E20 ethanol-blended fuel policy. The complaint was filed by BJP social media cell convener Shishir Arun Tripathi. Separately, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging reconsideration of the E20 rollout, citing reduced mileage and engine wear in older vehicles. The government defends E20 as a step to reduce fuel imports.
