India, through its Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, reiterated its call for comprehensive reforms of the United Nations, particularly the UN Security Council (UNSC), during an informal General Assembly meeting on the Pact for the Future. Parvathaneni criticized the UNSC's 80-year-old structure as outdated and ineffective in addressing contemporary conflicts, noting that public confidence in the UN has declined due to the Council's inability to intervene in global conflicts. He also called for reforms of international financial institutions to better serve developing countries. The remarks came a day after External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar launched India's campaign for a non-permanent UNSC seat for 2028-29. India expressed reservations about certain action points in the Pact for the Future but supported it in a constructive spirit.
