French President Emmanuel Macron will undertake a state visit to Nigeria in autumn 2026, as announced by French Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Marc Fonbaustier, during France's National Day celebration in Abuja. The visit, two years after Nigerian President Bola Tinubu's state visit to Paris, aims to review progress under the bilateral roadmap and define new areas of cooperation in trade, security, agriculture, and cultural exchange. Fonbaustier highlighted recent commercial partnerships including Carrefour with HyperCity, Accor with Coast, and Canal+'s acquisition of MultiChoice Group, as well as Abdul Samad Rabiu's initiative to establish a House of African Worlds in Paris. The France — French Development Agency is collaborating with Nigeria on agricultural projects to boost food security. Macron's vision for Africa was partly shaped by his six-month stay in Nigeria as a student 24 years ago.
