On 15 July 2026, Nokia announced the industry's first commercial AI-RAN platform, built on Nokia's anyRAN software and NVIDIA's Aerial AI-RAN platform. The platform aims to deliver over 100% spectral efficiency gains by 2028, doubling capacity of existing spectrum assets. It offers three hardware options: a GPU-powered AirScale capacity plug-in unit for existing Nokia customers, a standalone AI-RAN node, and cloud-native COTS server solutions. The platform supports 4G, 5G, and future 6G networks, and is fully ORAN compliant. Nokia plans pilot deployments by end of 2026 and commercial availability in 2027, with a subscription-based software model to enable continuous innovation without hardware upgrades.
