Mont Sorcier BFS delayed for optimization
Analysis based on 15 articles · First reported Jul 15, 2026 · Last updated Jul 15, 2026
The delay in the BFS may temper near-term expectations for the Mont Sorcier High Purity DRI Iron Project project, but the optimization studies aim to enhance project economics and reduce costs, which could improve long-term viability. Royalty holders Chibougamau and Globex may see limited short-term impact, while Cerrado's stock could experience mild volatility as investors assess the revised timeline and potential cost savings.
Cerrado Gold Inc. has elected to extend the completion date of the Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) for its Mont Sorcier High Purity DRI Iron Project high-grade iron ore deposit in Quebec to incorporate optimization opportunities. These include a modest drill program in Q3/2026 to upgrade inferred resources, trade-off studies on producing 65% vs 67% iron concentrate to reduce costs, and focus on reducing tailings dam construction and infrastructure costs amid inflationary pressures. The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) filing remains on schedule for Q2/2027, with permits expected by end of 2028 and construction potentially starting in Q1/2029. Chibougamau Independent Mines Inc. and Globex Mining Enterprises Inc. hold 2% and 1% GMR royalties respectively on the project.
