The deepening of EU-India tech and trade ties is expected to boost investment flows and supply chain resilience in semiconductors, AI, and clean energy sectors. Indian and European companies may benefit from reduced trade barriers and increased collaboration, while the focus on strategic autonomy could reduce dependence on other global hubs.

On July 15, 2026, the European Union and India held the third ministerial meeting of the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) in Brussels. The meeting was co-chaired by Indian ministers S. Jaishankar, Piyush Goyal, Jitin Prasada and International — European Commission officials Henna Virkkunen, Maroš Šefčovič, Ekaterina Zaharieva. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum technologies, clean energy, and resilient supply chains. They committed to finalizing the upgrade of the TTC by end of 2026, as envisioned in the Joint EU-India Comprehensive Strategic Agenda from the January 2026 summit. Key outcomes include starting formal negotiations for India's association with Horizon Europe, establishing an EU-India Innovation Hub for electric vehicle charging, launching a Deep-Tech Startup Partnership, and strengthening semiconductor collaboration including a joint roundtable at Semicon India 2026. They also agreed to work on interoperability of digital identity systems, support mobility of ICT professionals, and intensify coordination on 6G standards. On trade, they reaffirmed support for WTO reform and discussed market access issues including the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. The next ministerial meeting will be held in New Delhi in 2027.
