The funding round signals continued investor confidence in AI-driven customer service platforms, particularly those with recurring revenue and established customer bases. Cue's growth may intensify competition in the customer service software market, potentially impacting incumbents like Zendesk, Intercom, and Salesforce.
South African customer service software startup Cue has raised $5 million in a Series A funding round co-led by Knife Capital and FAM Investments. The company, founded in 2015 and headquartered in Cape Town, provides an AI-powered customer engagement platform that combines chatbots, live chat, and autonomous AI agents across WhatsApp, email, SMS, webchat, and voice channels. Cue serves over 500 businesses in South Africa and the United Kingdom, processing over 500 million conversations annually, and has grown annual recurring revenue by more than 160% year-on-year. The funding will be used to accelerate product development, international expansion, and investment in voice capabilities, security, and enterprise integrations. The round brings Cue's total disclosed funding to $7.5 million. The investment reflects growing interest in AI-powered customer service automation and the increasing role of local venture capital in Africa's AI infrastructure.
